R³ Devotional - Day 334

R³ Devotional - Day 334 - 1 Corinthians 5-8

By: Anderson Baptist Church

In today’s chapters we learn how Paul confronts the church on many situations regarding sexual immorality, church discipline, solving legal problems among believers, and exhortation on how married, single and/ or widow Christians should live. Paul is doing a strong call to the Corinthians (and us today) to live in a way that honors God. He explains the dangers of sin and how as believers, we can’t keep on living in it.

Real: Life Principles

Sin doesn’t start as something big. It can start off tiny and later it becomes something tremendous. Paul compares this to yeast, how you only need a little bit to make a dough rise. He exhorts us to be like Passover bread, with no yeast.

Believers living in sin? Paul is vocal about this, even exhorted to the congregation to avoid fellowship with people that considered themselves believers, but were actively and unrepentantly living in sin.

God has made us clean When we believe in Jesus, God makes us clean and pure, He sanctifies us.

Relevant: Life Applications

Beware! Sin can start off a collection of small compromises It’s like when we simmer or brew something, it’s not instantaneous. An affair, talking wrongly about someone, stealing; they didn’t just start off by being huge, were small compromises made in the way that little by little were brewing something bigger and terrible.

If we are true Believers, we can’t live in unrepentant continuous sin If we are drawn to sin or do anything that God doesn’t like, and we don’t repent from it or even feel remorse on doing it. It’s important to make a pause and ask Am I a true Believer? Have I really accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior? Am I actively ignoring God and the Holy Spirit? Paul in this letter exhorts to honor God, to live in purity; we cannot call ourselves Christians and do stuff unbelievers do.

God is the only one that can truly change us! Thanks God, His amazing grace and mercy, we can have hope. He gave us the best gift ever, His Son! Only Jesus can give us Salvation. Once we become believers, the sanctification process begins. As we are transformed, the Holy Spirit in us guides us, to follow God, his commandments and honor Him.

Ready: Life Actions
  • Check your heart! Are you committing a sin unrepentantly? Are you following your flesh and ignoring the Holy Spirit exhorting you? Run to the Lord, confess, repent and never go back.

  • God is the only one that can change us. Don’t try to do it by yourself or for anybody else. Surrender today, give your WHOLE life to God. Let him clean you, make you new and deliver you to a better life in HIM.

God bless y’all ABC Family!
