R³ Devotional - Day 41

R³ Devotional - Day 41 from Exodus Chapters 33-35

By: Dayna Nichols

Exodus 33 – 35 covers many points that may be familiar to you as God’s people move from Mount Sinai toward the land promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

  • God's withdrawal:
God tells Moses that He will not physically go with the Israelites into Canaan because of their disobedience, but will send an angel to lead them.

  • Moses' intercession:
Moses pleads with God to not leave the people, emphasizing the importance of God's presence with them. Moses sets up a special tent where he can meet with God to speak directly with Him.

  • Moses' plea to see God's glory:
Moses asks God to reveal His glory to him, signifying a deep desire to fully know and understand God's nature.

  • God's revelation of His name:
God reveals Himself to Moses as "the Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness".

  • The covenant renewal:
After the Israelites' sin with the golden calf, God reaffirms His covenant with them through Moses who brings down from the mountain the second set of the Ten Commandments.

  • Building the tabernacle:
Instructions are given for the construction of the tabernacle, including details about the materials, design, and designated craftsmen.

  • People's generous response:
The Israelites are eager to contribute their possessions and skills to build the Tabernacle.

Real: Life Principles
Two things stuck out to me as I studied these chapters.
First, I do not want to be anywhere without God. “The Lord replied, ‘My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest’” (Ex. 33:14).

Second, I want to offer what I have to serve Him. “All the Israelite men and women who were willing brought to the Lord freewill offerings for all the work the Lord through Moses had commanded them to do” (Ex. 35:29).

Relevant: Life Applications
I do not want to be “stiff-necked” (Ex. 33:3). I want to experience His grace and mercy and be thankful He is “slow to anger” and “steadfast in love”. I want to “rest” well and follow His commands. I want to know Him so I may follow His leading.

Ready: Life Action Steps
Prioritize time with God so that when others see you they will see Him shining through you. Offer hope and kindness in a dark world. Extend grace, mercy, forgiveness, and love. Offer Him the best of your time, talents, skills, and worship.
