R³ Devotional - Day 34
R³ Devotional - Day 34 from Exodus Chapter 14
By: Lee Dye
God’s people were slaves to the Egyptians for over 400 years. They were freed in one Night.
The Israelites rejoiced as they marched out of the wondrous walls of Egypt, with all the spoils as promised by God (Gen. 15). Their march began to the promised land began, as God had promised. Led by God, with Moses, a pillar of cloud by day, and a pillar of fire by night. But 400 years of the Egyptian ways were well instilled in their lifestyle. So much had to be purged from their ways. They began to complain: we’ve been wandering in this wilderness, they cried, yet they were led. They saw Pharaoh come after them, yet his army was defeated. They had no farmlands, limited cattle, and food was scarce. Still, God Provided. They grew tired of God provided, so spoiled to regular meals daily, they complained. They wanted to go back to Egypt. Their old ways. Back to bondage. But they followed God, trusted God, then eventually, ended up in the Land of Milk and Honey where God had promised, then praised God. *After 400 years in Egypt, it took 40 years to get Egypt out of Israel (W. Wiesbe). After this, they went on the “Land of Milk and Honey”, as God promised.
Just as the Israelites were set free from their bondage to the Egyptians, through Jesus Christ, we are set free from our bondage to sin. We still can sin, and Satan will tempt us. But we are not in bondage to it any longer. We will have a constant struggle to overcome sin. Their success was dependent on three things:
Sometimes we get scared, may be afraid, feel lost, and feel like we’ve been wandering for days, or weeks. If we Follow God, Trust God, and Praise God, WE WILL be triumphant over our sin nature. Moses encouraging words to Israel applies to us today more than ever:
Exodus 14
13And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today. ……………. 14The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

- Following God (Exo 13: 18God led the people, 20and they moved)
- Trusting God (Exo 14: 22And the people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.)
- Praising God (Exo 15:1 Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord, saying, “I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously”)
