R³ Devotional - Day 74

R³ Devotional - Day 74 from Deuteronomy Chapters 11-13

By: Kevin King

In Deuteronomy chapter 11 through 13 Moses continues to speak to the people of Israel as they prepare to go into the Promised Land.

Real Life Principles

In the beginning of chapter 11 verse 1, he tells them to love God and keep his Commandments.

We see this repeated by Jesus throughout the New Testament. In John 14:21, Jesus says if you love me you will keep my commandments.

In Matthew 22:37-40, Jesus tells the Pharisees the greatest of The Commandments is to love thy God with all thy heart all the mind and all they soul. And love that neighbor as they self.

God has not changed from the Old Testament to the New Testament. While we are no longer under the law we are still called to love God first.

Moses continues to remind the Israelites of how God has won the battles for them and how God has protected them. And how God has disciplined them. In Deuteronomy chapter 11 verses 13 to 16 Moses tells the people if they will obey his Commandments he will bless them and if they don't obey his Commandments he will curse them.

In Matthew Chapter 5 the sermon on the mound we see that Jesus tells the disciples and those listening to be blessed when walking in obedience. When walking in Disobedience to the Lord there will be no blessings. We see a clear picture of blessings for obedience and discipline for disobedience.

When the Israelites were obedient to God the victories came through the power of God. And when the Israelites were disobedient to God. God's hand of Correction Came Upon them quickly.

Relevant Life Applications

Throughout scripture we see that when God's people will walk according to his will in obedience to him, he promises to be with them. But when we walk in Disobedience to Christ he also promises correction and or discipline in your life.

Real Action Steps

What does God's blessings mean to you? God's blessing means that he is with you. Do you want to walk through this life knowing God is with you? Or do you want to go it alone without God? I've tried both and I can truly say God with me is worth being obedient to him.
