R³ Devotional - Day 93
R³ Devotional - Day 93 Judges Chapters 10-11
By: Lee Dye
Real Life Principles.
As the Israelites moved into the season of being led by Judges, they enjoyed peace, prosperity and security under the leadership of the Judges Tola and Jair. This would lead us to believe these Judges were faithful men of God.
But while the people flourished in these material things, their relationship with God did not grow. After the death of these Judges, or leaders, it was easy for the Israelites to fall back into the ungodly ways they had experienced in the past of Idolatry, forsaking God. Again.
So far from God, and doing Evil in the site of Lord, and serving the Gods of the Ammonites and Philistines, God allowed them to be oppressed by these nations. They had abandoned God. Now God was going to abandon them, for a season. They begged for forgiveness, again. But God was ready to teach. Verse 7: “And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of Ammon”.
So much history they had at their fingertips, so many lessons. Yet it is so easy to be consumed by the flesh; the material things of this world and not learn from the past. A good leader helps us focus on the right things and stay focused. It’s so easy for us to find ourselves in the same situation, without a leader. We see in Judges 10;17,18 the Israelites realizing their condition, gathering “dazed and confused”, lost, trying to figure out what to do next, looking for their next leader.
Relevant Life Applications.
We have our leader – Jesus Christ. He connects us to God, gives us the Holy Spirit, and has provided us with the Bible, God’s words full of history and teachings.
Ready Action Step.
As this relationship with God, through Jesus Christ grows and matures, led by the Holy Spirt, leaning from God’s word, we will never be leaderless, confused or lost.
