R³ Devotional - Day 35
R³ Devotional - Day 35 from Exodus Chapters 16-18
By: Jose Maldonado
16:4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “I am going to rain bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. This way I will test them to see whether or not they will follow my instructions. 5 On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather on other days.”
Real: Life principle. God Tests his people. God allows situations and circumstances to happen to us. He allows us to be tested. It is part of his plan so we can know ourselves, and be humble and dependant on the Lord.
Relevant: Life application. Stay calm and follow instructions.
Ready: Action Steps. Obey His clear instruction given in His word. it may not be how you think, or desire. Do not fail the test.
16:8 Moses continued “The Lord will give you meat to eat this evening and all the bread you want in the morning, for he has heard the complaints that you are raising against him. Who are we? Your complaints are not against us but against the Lord.”
Real: Principle. GOD Hears our complaining. We may think it is complaining about a certain person, but really it is complaining about God.
Relevant: Application. When and if you complain about something or someone, check is you are not really complaining about God.
Ready: Action. Stop it. Stop your complaining and give thanks to the Lord in EVERYTHING FOR THIS IS GOD’S WILL.
16:20 But they didn’t listen to Moses; some people left part of it until morning, and it bred worms and stank. Therefore Moses was angry with them.
Real: Principle. Sometimes disobeying the messenger is easy. Not realizing they are just giving God’s instructions. As messengers, we can get angry when others do not obey.
Relevant: Application. Don’t Shoot the Messenger. As a messenger, be careful not to let bitterness toward others develop.
Ready: Action. Check if the message is from the Lord. If so, Obey! As a messenger, pray for them. God may change your heart for them in the process.
17:7 He named the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites complained, and because they tested the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
Real: Principle: Sometimes people feel the Lord has abandoned them..other times ios just a way to discredit the Lord.
Relevant: Application: Know he is there. It may not be as we think, or like, but He is there. Don't let this phrase be used to test the Lord.
Ready: Action: Accept it. He is here, there, everywhere.
17:11 While Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, but whenever he put his hand down, Amalek prevailed. 12 When Moses’s hands grew heavy, they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat down on it. Then Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other so that his hands remained steady until the sun went down.
Real: Principle: God puts people around us to help us. Messengers/leaders get tired too.
Relevant: Application: We need to be willing and available to help.
Ready: Action: help without complaining or showboating. Taking A selfie to show everyone you help. Let others lift you up.
18:8 Moses recounted to his father-in-law all that the Lord had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, all the hardships that confronted them on the way, and how the Lord rescued them.
Real: Principles: God works in your life so you can testify to others
Relevant: Applications: Share with others how God works and worked in your life.
Ready: Action: Open your mouth and testify!! Don’t be afraid.
18:17 “What you’re doing is not good,” Moses’s father-in-law said to him. 18 “You will certainly wear out both yourself and these people who are with you, because the task is too heavy for you. You can’t do it alone.
18: 21 But you should select from all the people able men, God-fearing, trustworthy, and hating dishonest profit. Place them over the people as commanders of thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens. 22 They should judge the people at all times. Then they can bring you every major case but judge every minor case themselves. In this way you will lighten your load, and they will bear it with you.
Real: Principles. God will send people to give us advice. Standards have to be set.
Relevant: Applications. Receive advice from others they may have a better way. Prep and plan.
Ready: Action. Put it into practice. Don't just receive or listen to advice and ideas.
