R³ Devotional - Day 55

R³ Devotional - Day 55 from Numbers Chapters 3-4

By: Lee Dye

The entire book of Numbers is about getting the house of God in Order. Preparing God’s people for entering the Promised Land.  Getting organized, helping the people receive and apply God’s Law through service and their walk, and reminding them of their experiences in suffering and successes.  Paul sums it up well in Romans 11:22 – “goodness and severity of God”.

Real Life Principles.
Numbers, Chapters 3 and 4, God has given Moses specific instructions.  Numbers 3:5; “List the sons of Levi, by fathers’ houses and by clans; every male from a month old and upward you shall list.”   Instructions go on to include the details of their tribes, their clans, names, and the numbers in each tribe.

Relevant Life Applications.
God also gave instruction as to what their role was.  Numbers 3:5-10, they would minister to Aaron, keep guard over him and the whole congregation, guard the tent of meeting, the people of Israel, and the priesthood.  So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests in the lifetime of Aaron their father.  Details include where they were to camp in relation to the tent of meetings, the tabernacle, and when.

God called out and chose this tribe with specific details and instructions.  The Levites heeded the call and knew they were chosen.  They remembered God spared them in Egypt.  When Pharoh proclaimed to kill the first-born child, God gave detailed instructions again in Exodus 12:13; The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you…”.  God spared His Chosen.  They followed God’s instructions, were chosen by God, and survived.

Ready Action Steps.
We are chosen as well.   2 Thessalonians 2:13 “….God chose you as the first fruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth”.  The calling is simple.  What is the calling?  “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last…”.   The details are in the Word.  When we listen to God and follow the detailed instructions He’s given us through his scripture, we will bear beautiful fruits of love, compassion, forgiveness, and most of all, sharing the Good News of the Saving Grace of our Savior.
