R³ Devotional - Day 37

R³ Devotional - Day 37 from Exodus Chapter 22

By: Glenn Hood

This chapter contains various laws about property rights and freedom. There is a strong emphasis on taking responsibility for one’s actions, such as returning stolen goods or compensating for damages.

We see God is concerned for fairness and restitution. He commands that people treat one another with honesty and respect, especially in matters of property. This reminds us that God values justice and calls us to live with integrity in all our relationships.

The principle of restitution—making things right when we have wronged others—applies not just to material things but also to our relationships.

  • It is a call for us to own up to our mistakes
  • seek forgiveness
  • restore what has been broken.

Personal Challenge: Is there an area in your life where you need to make restitution? Maybe a broken relationship, or an apology long overdue. Pray to God to put it on your heart and to handle it appropriately.

Laws on Justice and Mercy.    Exodus 23:

God gives further laws about justice, the importance of trusting in his provision. God promises that if the Israelites obey his commands, he will bless them and guide them.

God reminds his people of the importance of rest and trust in his provision. He also commands them to honor him on the festival days, which were designed to remind them of his goodness and their dependence on him. This shows us that God cares not just about what we do, but how we do it. Here are a few ways to help us in prayer.

  • keep integrity
  • rest
  • remembrance of His faithfulness.

Personal Challenge: Are you trusting in what God is giving you, in your life? Do you take time to rest and remember God’s faithfulness?
