R³ Devotional - Day 11

R³ Devotional - Day 11 from Job Chapters 29-31

By: Kevin King

Job 29

Job is remembering when his life was good and glorious. In verse 2 and 3  "he says oh that I was in the months gone by as in the days when God watched over me when his lamp shown over my head and by his light I walked through darkness.".

Job had the respect of the people, the young men, the children, the old man, and the leaders. He says even the princess stopped talking and put their heads on their mouths when Job was in their presence.

Remember this life is temporary no matter how good it may be, the good in this life is temporary, we should never put too much value on the glories of life in this world.
Job is remembering that God was with him during the good times and seems to be doubting that God is with him during his time of trouble and calamity and disaster. but the truth is, God will allow disaster in our lives when he knows that it will draw us closer to him. And when we draw closer to him He will draw even closer to us.

When disaster happens, and it will happen, remember to trust the Lord, he is faithful he will never leave you and he will never forsake you.
Job 30

Job has lost everything and is suffering with mental anguish with physical pain. The people around him show disdain for him instead of the respect and honor they gave him when he was rich before their eyes. In verses 5 through 10 you see that even the lowest of the low taunt him and he's become a bad word to them and they do not refrain from spitting in his face. The people of the world will respect and honor the things of the world: riches and power and fame, the pride of life, the lust of the eyes and the lust of the flesh. When a Believer loses the things of the world the world will hate him but God will continue to be for him and to love him and true followers of Christ will continue to love him. Don't trust the things of the world, put your trust in Jesus Christ.
Job 31

Job makes his case for what a good person he is, how he has taken care of other people, and all the things he's done for other people. He even says to examine him to see that these things are true. He makes his case that he is a good person and does not deserve these bad things. Our question may be if God is good why does he let terrible things happen to good people. We will not always know why terrible things are happening to us or someone that we love. The Bible says his ways are so much higher than our ways we are not able to understand them. Well, this is not the explanation that any of us want to hear, it is what is true. On the other side of Eternity whatever troubles we go through on this lifetime will be nothing compared to the glory and wonder and awesomeness of our eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ life is but a vapor it appears only for a moment for the believer this world is as bad as it's ever going to get. For the non-follower of Jesus Christ this world is as good as it's ever going to get follow Jesus it's worth it.
