R³ Devotional - Day 53

R³ Devotional - Day 53 from Leviticus Chapter 26

By: Jose Maldonado

Promises of Blessings (verses 1-13): Emphasis on the importance of not making idols and observing the Sabbath.  If the Israelites follow God's decrees and keep His commandments, He will send rain in its season, and the land will yield its crops. God promises peace in the land and protection from enemies. "I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down, and no one will make you afraid."  "I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people."

Consequences for Disobedience (verses 14-39) Warning of the consequences if the Israelites do not listen to God and obey His commands, including sudden terror and wasting diseases. God will punish their sins seven times over, and their strength will be spent in vain. More severe punishments if they continue to be hostile towards God, including wild animals that will rob them of their children.  "I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out my sword and pursue you."

Confession and Restoration (verses 40-46)  If they confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors, their unfaithfulness and hostility toward God. "I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.""But for their sake, I will remember the covenant with their ancestors whom I brought out of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God. I am the Lord."
