R³ Devotional - Day 298

R³ Devotional - Day 298 - Luke 10

By: Anderson Baptist Church

Great Harvest and Humble Prayer
“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Luke 10:2, ESV)

Jesus looks out at the world—our cities, our workplaces, our homes—and sees a field ready for reaping, not a desolate wasteland. The problem is not the readiness of the world, but the scarcity of willing workers.

Real Life Principle:
This verse presents both a diagnosis and a divine directive:

  • See the World as a Harvest (Optimism): Do not view your mission field with despair or cynicism. Trust Jesus' assessment: the people around you are closer to the Kingdom than you think. This belief fuels courage and prevents burnout.

Relevant Application:
Pray to Become the Answer (Humility): The command is to "pray earnestly." When you pray for laborers, you must also recognize that God may be sending you! True prayer for the harvest is a willingness to be one of the "few" who says, "Here I am, send me."

  • Ask yourself today: Am I seeing the people in my life as a difficult problem to avoid, or as a ripe harvest field where God is ready to work?

Ready Action Step:
Take a moment right now and pray specifically for one person you know who is far from God. Then, ask the Lord to give you the courage and compassion to be the laborer He sends to them this week. The prayer for more workers starts with your own feet moving.
