R³ Devotional - Day 290
R³ Devotional - Day 290 - Matthew 14, Mark 6, Luke 9
By: Anderson Baptist Church
All of these chapters in the Bible share one of the greatest miracles in Jesus’ ministry that was recorded. The feeding of the five thousand. An amazing story of how Jesus multiplied 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread to feed more than enough for all the people who were there for Him.
But today I want us to focus not on the miracle itself, but on a specific word in this story. The bible says Jesus saw the people with COMPASSION. (Matthew 14:14, Mark 6:34). This was a true compassion, not because there were many or because they were hungry, but because they were spiritually lost.
Jesus even said to his disciples not to send them away; he wanted the lost to stay, not only to feed them physically but to fill them spiritually.
As I read this passage, I can’t help but think: Do I have that same compassion towards the lost? Do I see a lost crowd and feel sorrow and urged to share the good news of salvation with them? Am I showing that same love that Jesus showed others?
Real: Life Principles
• Jesus' compassion for the lost is clearly shown through the gospels. He came to save, to heal, to forgive.
• Am I having the same compassion that Jesus had for the lost? Am I urged to share the gospel with those who need it?
Relevant: Life Applications
• Jesus fed them spiritually and physically. As Believers, we need to always find a way to help others in their earthly needs and their spiritual needs.
• Let’s think of those around us who do not know Jesus. Let’s show the same compassion Jesus had for those who needed Him.
Ready: Life Action Steps
• Show compassion for those around you. If someone needs something and you can provide it, show the Love of Christ with that need. And don’t miss the opportunity to share the gospel as well.
• Pray for someone who is around you who is lost. Pray to have an opportunity to show them who Christ is.
