R³ Devotional - Day 194
R³ Devotional - Day 194 - 2 Chron 27
By: Carole Rinehart
It's fascinating that reading chapters 26 and 27 led me to consider that if my life were written down for millions of people to read, I might be nervous. Our lives are often filled with a collection of experiences. Moments of joy, fear, heartbreak, beauty, and ashes. I thought about what parts of my life might stand out. Would I be embarrassed about some of my decisions? Certainly.
Our lives are made up of moments when we choose to be obedient to the Lord and moments when we choose to do what is right in our own eyes. No matter the circumstances I face. There is no consistent focus in our walk before God sometimes.
Jotham "did what was right in the eyes of the LORD". He followed in the footsteps of his father, Uzziah, who also sought to honor God (even though he stumbled at the end). This underscores the impact of a godly heritage. Jotham is the only one of all the Hebrew kings, from Saul down, against whom God has nothing bad to record.
I’d never want to give the impression that I have mastered any of this. I often fail and often need to apologize to God for having made my own decision. But even then, by His grace, I stop and correct my thinking. To re-establish myself in the purpose of doing what God wants.
Real Life Principles:
As a regular pattern of life, Jotham had grown to deliberately prepare his ways before the Lord. Jotham fixed this into his heart in such a committed manner that he could not be shaken from them by changing circumstances or by the unfaithfulness of others.
Relevant Life Application:
Jotham's legacy is recorded in Scripture as a testament to his faithfulness. Our lives, too, have a lasting impact. By prioritizing our relationship with Him and serving others, we can create a legacy that points others to the hope and salvation found in Jesus Christ.
Jotham grew powerful because he walked steadfastly before the Lord his God (27:6).
Ready Life Action step:
Let’s walk steadfastly before the Lord. Prepare our ways before the Lord and purpose to do what God wants.
