R³ Devotional - Day 184

R³ Devotional - Day 184 - 2 Kings 5

By: Lee Dye

Day #184 R³ Devotional  2 Kings 5 – Lee Dye

In this passage, we see so many working parts of God.  All working together, so that we might see the Glory of God.  A leper, usually shunned and outcast yet used as by God in battled as a mighty leader.  A little girl with such faith, suggested that a prophet of God, through God’s grace and mercy could heal him.  A prophet, Elisha, being obedient to God.

This leper, Naaman, agrees to accept this child’s faith and seek healing.  First, he goes to the wrong person.  He goes to the King of Israel, instead of our heavenly King.  When he gets to the right person, the servant of God, Elisha, Naaman is given specific instructions; 2 Kings 9: “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored, and you shall be clean.”.  But Naaman, just like us sometimes, though he thought he knew better than the man of God.  Naaman expected a spectacle.  He thought Elisha would come out to him, wave his hand in a big show and be cured.  He even suggested there was better waters than the Jordan to be cleansed in which Elisha instructed.

Naaman’s servants looked at him and said, all the Elisha said “actually” said was wash and be clean.  Verse 14: So, he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

REAL - Life Principle: Go to the Real King.  Don’t waste your time with false teachings and leaders.  There is only one true King that can purify us and make us whole: 1 Timothy 6:15 ..He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

RELEVANT - Life Application:  Sure, we can learn at lot through life experiences, but don’t let that be confused with God’s infinite wisdom.  Believe it or not, HE does know better than us.  God doesn’t always lay out a detailed process for us to follow.  He really makes it simple: Just clean your act up.  Go wash yourself.

READY – Action Steps:  Practice a clean heart:  Psalm 19:14; Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.
