R³ Devotional - Day 162
R³ Devotional - Day 162 - 2nd Chronicles chapters 2-3
By: Kevin King
In 2nd Chronicles chapters 2 and 3, we see King Solomon preparing, beginning, and completing the temple of God.
King David had wanted to build the temple, but God told him that he could not because he had too much blood on his hands. However, God told King David that he could prepare the materials and that his son, Solomon, could build the temple. King David had an alliance with King Huram, Who provided the materials and Craftsman for King David's Palace, and now would provide the same to Solomon for the temple of God.
Solomon sent the letter to King Haram requesting that he send the materials and help him as he had helped his father David.
Huram, replied that he would do so. What I find interesting in 2 Chronicles chapter 2 verse 12 King Huram, acknowledges that the God of Israel is the creator of Heaven and Earth. It's unknown if Huram was a follower of the God of Israel or not but he did acknowledge Him. And it was pleasing to him to supply the materials requested and Craftsman that could do the work. King Solomon did provide men as well and payed him well for what he supplied.
In 2nd Chronicles chapter 3 Solomon begins to build the temple. In verse 1 we see that the temple is being built on the threshing floor, King David bought from Ornan, the jebusite many years before. This is the same threshing floor that God told King David to build an altar and sacrifice for his sin against God when he numbered the Israelites against God's will.Blood was payment for the sin.
Even more interesting, this took place on Mount Moriah where around 600 to 800 years before King David, God, ordered Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac. Right before Abraham sacrificed Isaac a scapegoat was provided. A blood sacrifice. A sacrifice in Isaac's place. This location is very significant. It's where the first temple was built and the second temple was built and it will be where the Third Temple is built as well.
As we continue on in chapter 3 we see the process of the temple being built. Take notice, this Temple was very precise, very Grand, very detail oriented. Solomon gives to the temple the very best he has to offer. The best wood, the best gold, the best silver the best linen the best craftsmanship he doesn't hold back anything.
God cares about the details. Be diligent in your work don't be sloppy in business.
If we look over it at First Kings chapter 6 verse 12 and 13 we see the same story being told buy Jeremiah the prophet. But this version includes a covenant made by God to King Solomon.
[12] “Concerning this house which you are building, if you will walk in My statutes and execute My ordinances and keep all My commandments by walking in them, then I will carry out My word with you which I spoke to David your father.
[13] I will dwell among the sons of Israel, and will not forsake My people Israel.”
This is the Covenant God made with King Solomon.
If Solomon would keep God's ordinances and his Commandments and walk in them then God would not forsake his people.
King Solomon eventually failed to do so, and most of the kingdom was stripped from his lineage except for Judah because of his disobedience.
Several things that we should take away from this scripture.
First as King Solomon gave the best he had to offer. Do we give God our best or do we just do enough to get by?
Give God your best.
Second we have a new covenant made with the blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the sacrifice in our place.
Remember the scapegoat.
The new Covenant is this, we have all sinned and we all fall short of the glory of God. Scripture teaches, without the blood atonement or the blood payment for our sins there can be no Redemption for our sins.
In other words I am a sinner and you are a sinner, our sin separates us from a relationship with our creator God. The God of the Bible, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob. The one true God. If we will confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus Christ and turn from our sins we can have the relationship with our creator Jesus Christ.
As Solomon did we will break the Covenant and sin again after we say yes to Jesus. But the good news is, God will never break the Covenant with us. Scripture says we are sealed until he comes. The blood of Jesus is the perfect sacrifice the perfect atonement they can't be broken.
The time is now, say yes to Jesus and if you have or when you do, give him your best for now and forever.
