R³ Devotional - Day 152

R³ Devotional - Day 152 - 2 Chronicles 1:7

"That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, 'Ask for whatever you want me to give you.'"

Imagine God appearing to you and offering you anything your heart desires. This is precisely what happened to Solomon, the newly appointed king of Israel. His father, David, had just passed away, and Solomon was faced with the immense responsibility of leading a nation. In this pivotal moment, an invitation – an opportunity for Solomon to articulate his deepest needs and desires before the Almighty. WOW.

It's easy to get caught up in the "what if." Would we ask for wealth? Power? Fame? Personal comfort? Solomon's response, which we see in the following verses, is a profound lesson for us all. He didn't ask for personal gain, but for wisdom to govern God's people well. He recognized the weight of his calling and the need for divine guidance to fulfill it.

This verse serves as a powerful reminder that God is a generous giver. He is not a stingy God, but one who delights in blessing His children. However, it also prompts us to consider the posture of our own hearts when we approach Him. When we pray, what are we truly asking for? Are our requests focused on ourselves, or are they aligned with God's purposes and the needs of others?

Real life principles:

This passage speaks to the importance of seeking God first in our endeavors. Solomon had just stepped into a new role, and his first significant act was to encounter God and seek His direction. How often do we rush into new challenges, new jobs, or new relationships without first pausing to seek God's guidance and wisdom?

If God were to appear to you tonight and offer you anything, what would you ask for? Why?
How does Solomon's request for wisdom challenge your own priorities and desires?

Relevant life applications:

Do an inventory of your life, ask yourself, do you intentionally seek God's wisdom and guidance daily?

Ask yourself how can you cultivate a heart that desires God's will above your own personal gain?

Ready action steps:
Pray
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your incredible generosity and Your willingness to meet our needs. Forgive us for the times when our prayers are self-centered. Help us, like Solomon, to seek You first and foremost, and to ask for wisdom and discernment to live lives that honor You and serve Your purposes. May our desires be aligned with Your will, and may we always recognize that You are the source of all good things. In Jesus' name, Amen.
