R³ Devotional - Day 127

R³ Devotional - Day 127

By: Jennifer Novosad

Honor God's Holiness

God specified that the ark was to be carried by poles that would be placed through rings that were attached to the four corners of the ark (Exo. 25:13-14). Levites, it would be the job of the sons of Kohath to bear the ark and that no one was to touch the ark, not even the sons of Kohath, the result of doing so was to die (Num. 4:15).

We want God's presence with us but we have to honor his holiness and commands. Uzzah’s death showed that he disregarded God’s commands and it came with consequences.

The Levites knew that the ark should be in front, leading the way not Ahio.   The Levites knew that the Ark was supposed to be carried on the shoulders of the Levite family.  The Levites knew God's instructions, but they thought their way was better.

Have we ever thought our way was better than God's way?  Even when our way seems easier?  Uzzah, Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, decided to move the Ark by wheels like the Philistines did because it was an easier way.  They decided to put things in their own hands.  The error that Uzzah made was way more than just him touching the pole.  Yes, it broke the law, but it also showed us he thought his way was better.  They totally disregarded God's commands and disobeyed.  We find ourselves doing easier worldly things too!  And our sins also will lead to death.  But thankfully, with God's grace, we are forgiven. In order to be forgiven, we need to ask, walk, and be led by God's presence.

Life application
When making decisions, seek God’s direction, not just what seems easy. Seek, obey His commands, and Walk in His Way.

God’s Promises

He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.  And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.  Luke 1 32-33

David wanted to build a house for the Lord. A house to dwell in instead of a tent.  David wanted to show a way to honor God, but it was not what God wanted.  The Lord had better plans! He wanted to build a home for David that would last forever.  He wanted David’s lineage to last forever.  A house for the ark would have been a “good thing” but through David’s faithfulness and heart God had better plans. He promised him his lineage will last forever and his throne will last eternally, which was fulfilled through Jesus Christ.

Life Application
We have many ideas that we want to do because they are good.  But, remember to bring everything to God because He might say no because He has something better for us.  Stay faithful because His plans are the GOOD PLANS! God is faithful! It will take discernment, patience and trust in the Lord.

Thank God

Lord God, you are God; your words are true, and you have promised this good thing to your servant. 2 Samuel 7:28

David thank God for always doing what is best for him and giving Him all the credit!

Life Application
Everything you do is for the Lord not man.  Give all thanks to our Lord God!

Ready Action Steps

Seek, Listen and Obey

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.  As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9)
