R³ Devotional - Day 119

R³ Devotional - Day 119 Psalm 102

The passage for today’s devotion is a list of names of the tribes of Israel and their descendants. It’s a hard passage to unfold when you only have names, however, I once had a professor who told me that even in those passages, God has a purpose.

I want to point out two specific portions of today’s passage. First, we see the list of descendants, but if we pay close attention to it they all had their roles. In the first chapters, we see a lot of warriors, but in chapter 9, verses 23-33, we see the roles they had in the return from the exile. Everyone was taking part in the kingdom of God.

Second, at the end of chapter 10, we see a recap of Saul’s death. A sad death of a man who  was once anointed by God, but moved away from God’s path and had a tragic end. Verse 13 says, “He broke faith with the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord, and also consulted a medium seeking guidance”.

I can only think of how many times I have not kept the Lord’s commands, and yet here I am.  Thank god for his mercy for us, where would we be without it? “The steadfast love of the Lord  never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your  faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:23-24

Real: Life Principles:
  • We all have a role in the kingdom. God has gifted us with talents and spiritual gifts for his  glory and to build up the church. (1 Corinthians 12:7)

  • God’s mercy is continuous for us. Without his mercy, we would be lost without cause. His steadfast love endures forever.

Relevant: Life Applications:
  • We need to use the gifts and talents that God has graciously given us. We all have a part in the kingdom.

  • Thank God for his mercy for our lives. Even though we fail, he is a faithful and forgiving God.  The Lord is there to guide us and direct us, he is open to hear our cries for wisdom and guidance in our lives. We do not need anything separate from him.

Ready: Life Action Steps:
  • Look for opportunities to serve with the talents and gifts that God has given you. If you do now know what those are, pray to God so he can reveal those to you, and ask for help from others; they may have an idea of what those may be.

  • Seek the Lord every day. Abide with him. Trust him in all your decisions. Be grateful for his loving mercy and faithfulness to us.
