R³ Devotional - Day 219

R³ Devotional - Day 219 - Jeremiah Chapter 1

By: Anderson Baptist Church

Jeremiah Chapter 1 outlines the prophet Jeremiah’s call and commissioning by God, offering principles and applications relevant to faith, purpose, and obedience.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

“Alas, Sovereign Lord, I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” God responds, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid, for I am with you.”

“Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” and later, “They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you.”

REAL LIFE PRINCIPLES:
  • God has a purpose for each person, known and appointed even before birth.
  • Human limitations (age, skill, or confidence) are overcome by God’s empowerment and presence.
  • God equips those He calls, providing courage and authority to fulfill His purpose.
  • God’s message, not human ingenuity, drives the mission, and obedience to it carries divine authority.
  • It is the message not the messenger. The words God gives have power to influence nations, build up, or tear down, emphasizing the importance of faithful delivery.
  • God’s presence ensures strength to face resistance or adversity in fulfilling His call.
  • Opposition is inevitable when following God’s purpose, but His protection and support are assured.

Relevant Life Applications:
  • Reflect on your unique calling, trusting that God has a plan for your life, even if you feel unqualified or uncertain. Seek His guidance through prayer and Scripture to discern your role in His kingdom. For example, like Jeremiah, you might feel inadequate for a task (e.g., leading a group, sharing faith), but trust that God equips you.
  • When facing challenges or self-doubt, lean on God’s promise of presence and empowerment. Whether it’s a difficult conversation, a new responsibility, or a bold step of faith, trust that God’s strength is sufficient.
  • Share God’s truth (e.g., biblical principles, encouragement, or correction) with love and boldness, even when it’s unpopular. Jeremiah’s role as a prophet to the nations suggests speaking into difficult situations with God’s authority.
  • Expect resistance when pursuing God’s call, whether from external critics or internal doubts. Jeremiah faced hostility but was sustained by God’s promise. Similarly, stand firm in your convictions, whether at work, home, or in public.

Ready action steps:
TRUST AND OBEY THE LORD.
