R³ Devotional - Day 281

R³ Devotional - Day 281 - John 5

By: Anderson Baptist Church

John 5 is a rich chapter that reveals Jesus’ authority, compassion, and call to spiritual awakening. The healing at the pool of Bethesda and His bold confrontation with religious leaders offer powerful lessons for the church today.

John 5:1-9 — Healing at the pool of Bethesda
John 5:16-30 — Jesus’ authority and unity with the Father
John 5:39-40 — The call to respond to Scripture and believe

"Do you want to be healed?" — John 5:6

Real-Life Principle: Jesus doesn’t wait for perfect conditions—He meets us in our brokenness and asks if we’re ready to be made whole.

Relevant Life Application:

  • In personal life: Encourage believers to stop waiting for ideal circumstances and respond to Jesus’ invitation to healing—emotionally, spiritually, relationally.

  • In ministry: Teach that healing begins with willingness. Create spaces for honest prayer and confession, where people can say, “Yes, Lord—I want to be healed.”

  • In outreach: Remind the church that Jesus moves toward the marginalized. Let ministry reflect that same posture—seeking out the overlooked and offering hope.

"You study the Scriptures...yet you refuse to come to Me to have life." — John 5:39-40

Real-Life Principle: Knowing truth isn’t enough—Jesus calls us to respond, to come to Him, and to live in the power of His word.

Relevant Life Application:

  • In leadership: Challenge leaders to move from knowledge to obedience. Let teaching always lead to action, not just information.

  • In congregational life: Equip the church to hear and respond to God’s voice. Use Scripture not just for study, but for transformation.

  • In discipleship: Invite people to reflect—“Where am I refusing to come to Jesus?” Help them take steps toward surrender and renewal.

Ready Action Steps and Reflection

  • What area of my life have I accepted as permanently broken?
  • Am I responding to Jesus’ voice—or just studying His words?

Be in prayer for healing, awakening, and bold response.
