R³ Devotional - Day 202

R³ Devotional - Day 202 - Hosea Chapter 8

By: Anderson Baptist Church

Hosea Chapter 8 is a powerful and sobering prophecy against the northern kingdom of Israel (Ephraim) for its deep-seated apostasy and rebellion against God. The chapter highlights several key principles, demonstrating the consequences of forsaking a covenant relationship with the Lord:

Real Life Principles:
The  Seriousness of Covenant Breaking and Disobedience.
Transgression of Covenant and Law.

The chapter opens with a stern warning, likening an enemy coming "as an eagle against the house of the LORD" because Israel has "transgressed my covenant and rebelled against my law" (Hosea 8:1). This emphasizes that God's judgment is a direct result of their breaking the sacred covenant they made with Him, which included adherence to His laws.

Relevant Life Application:

  • Do not Ignore God's Word: Israel had the law of God, but they regarded it as "a strange thing" (Hosea 8:12). This shows a disregard for divine instruction and a willful ignorance of what God required of them.
  • Empty Religious Rituals: Despite their outward religious practices, multiplying altars and offering sacrifices, God declares that He takes no delight in them (Hosea 8:11, 13). Their rituals were devoid of true worship and obedience, making them an abomination rather than a pleasing offering.

Ready Action Steps:
Make sure your heart and will are aligned with what God desires. Please do not let it be a mere ceremony.
