R³ Devotional - Day 243

R³ Devotional - Day 243 - Ezekiel 16

By: Anderson Baptist Church

Ezekiel 16 is one of the most emotionally charged chapters in the prophetic books—a raw, poetic portrayal of God’s covenant love, Israel’s betrayal, and the shocking grace of restoration.

“I passed by you and saw you wallowing in your blood, and I said to you, ‘Live!’” (v.6)
“I made you thrive… I clothed you… adorned you…” (vv.7–13)
“But you trusted in your beauty and played the harlot…” (v.15)
“You set before them my oil and incense… my bread…” (vv.18–19)
“You took your sons and daughters… and sacrificed them” (v.20)
“I will deal with you as you deserve” (v.59)
“I will remember my covenant… and establish an everlasting covenant” (v.60)
“You will remember and be ashamed… when I atone for you” (vv.61–63)

Real Life Principles:
  • Shame leads to humility, not despair
  • Covenant mercy restores
  • God’s justice is real
  • Sin has generational impact
  • Idolatry distorts worship
  • Pride leads to spiritual adultery
  • Grace precedes worthiness
  • God rescues the rejected

Relevant Life Applications:
  • God sees them in their brokenness and speaks life.
  • Identity and dignity come from God’s grace, not performance.
  • Invite reflection on where we’ve trusted gifts over the Giver.
  • Challenge readers to examine what they’ve offered to idols—time, energy, relationships.
  • Accountability is part of love. Useful in leadership training or conflict resolution.
  • God’s mercy is greater than our failure.
  • Teach that godly sorrow leads to healing, not condemnation.

Ready Action Steps:
Call a friend and edify or build them up, pray with them.
