R³ Devotional - Day 321

R³ Devotional - Day 321 - Acts 4-6

By: Anderson Baptist Church

It is so hard to be bold in our day. We face criticism, rejection, peer pressure, and, sadly, most of the time, we tend to abandon what we believe and just go with the flow of what society dictates.

This was not the case for the apostles. Just as they were starting their ministry without Jesus with them, they had to face such hard times like being threatened, put in jail, beaten, just because they were Bold to share what they believed.

In these chapters, we see this boldness the apostles had (4:10-12, 19-20, 29-30), but my
favorite statement in these chapters was made by Peter in chapter 5 verse 29, as he was being asked why are you preaching about Jesus when we just told you not to, and Peter says: “We must obey God rather than men”.

What a great statement of faith, an act of boldness, a clear message to everyone listening, that we as believers should not be afraid of sharing what we believe, no matter the circumstances. God has commanded us to share his gospel, and no matter what society says to us, we are to Obey God above men.

Real: Life Principles
  • Jesus said in Acts 1:8 that we will receive power with the holy spirit, so that we can be witnesses of his life and the wonderful things he has done in our lives.

  • Do you believe in this promise? If you do, then know that the holy spirit in you empowers you and gives you that boldness we need to share his gospel.

Relevant: Life Applications
  • The boldness that the apostles had was blessed by the Lord, and many came to know Him, and even the religious leaders of the time were amazed by their boldness (4:13).

  • Our boldness to share the gospel has a great impact on others around us, even if we don’t see an immediate result. Try to think on how many people around you would hear the good news of salvation if we were bold to share it.

Ready: Life Action Steps
  • It is hard to be bold, but we are not doing this alone. Jesus said we were to have power, and that he would be with us.

  • If you feel you lack the boldness to share his gospel, pray, and ask God to give you that boldness that we need to share his name, and he will provide it, just as he did with the early church. (4:29-31)
