R³ Devotional - Day 225

R³ Devotional - Day 225 - Jeremiah Chapters 23-25

By: Carole Rinehart

23 “Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture!” declares the Lord. The first word “woe” is a dreadful indication of what is to come.

There was an abundance of false prophets. The Lord announced that both prophets and priests were polluted with unfaithfulness. Judah’s prophets were worse than Israel’s prophets. WHAT? HOW COULD THIS BE? This was the Covenant line of David! God did promise to one day raise up a righteous branch from David’s line, Jesus.

The false prophet’s messages were dangerous, and they thought they could hide things from the Lord. They disguised their own beliefs as divine revelation from God. They even made up lies. The Israelites followed them blindly.

God told them that they have aroused His anger. Verse 11 - This whole country will become a desolate wasteland, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
Psalm 50:22 - “Think about this, you who forget God. Otherwise, I will tear you apart, and no one will save you.

Most of us are not false prophets, and yet; we do tend to forget God in our daily lives, and we are a notoriously unfaithful people. We are not always discerning. Sometimes we just follow the crowd, or we don’t know for sure and don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings.

We have SO much to be thankful for! God has blessed us. God has delivered us, healed us and blessed us. God has given us the most precious gift of all – salvation and eternal life and hope!

Discernment is being able to separate truth from lies. We should walk so close with The Lord and read His Word enough to know the difference between them when we hear it.

Pray - Father God, please forgive me for those times that I have allowed the things of this world to crowd my heart. I do not want to ever forget you, for you are my God. May I never lose sight of you. Help me to discern Your Word.
