R³ Devotional - Day 305

R³ Devotional - Day 305 - Matthew 20

By: Anderson Baptist Church

"Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." — Matthew 20:26-28

Real Life Principle
True greatness in God’s kingdom is measured by selfless service, not status. Jesus flips the world’s definition of leadership. In His kingdom, the highest call is to go low—to serve, to sacrifice, and to elevate others.

Relevant Application
Personal:
  • Ask: “Where am I seeking recognition instead of serving quietly?”
  • Practice hidden service—do something this week that blesses someone without being noticed.
Family:
  • Teach your children that leadership begins with humility.
  • Create a “serve one another” challenge—each person finds a way to serve someone else in the home.
Church:
  • Remember that titles don’t define leaders—servanthood does.
  • Celebrate unseen acts of service in your congregation. Make space for testimonies of quiet faithfulness.

Ready Action Step
Reflect: Meditate on Jesus’ example of servant leadership. Read Philippians 2:5-8 alongside Matthew 20.
Serve: Choose one person in your church or community to serve this week—especially someone who may be overlooked.
Equip: If you’re a leader, invite others into servant roles. Create opportunities for behind-the-scenes ministry that shapes hearts and culture.
Model: Lead by example. Let your posture, tone, and decisions reflect the humility of Christ.
