R³ Devotional - Day 287

R³ Devotional - Day 287 - Matthew 13

By: Anderson Baptist Church

When we have a message or point, we are trying to share, we use illustrations or examples to do our best to communicate that message.  Jesus does this with parables.  He understands each of us.  All of us.

Some say parables are earthly stories with a heavenly message.   Matthew chapter 13 is all about Parables.

The heavenly Message – The Kingdom of Heaven, mentioned 13 times in this chapter.  The earthly story – a sower, seeds, weeds, mustard seed, leaven/flour, hidden treasure, pearls;  All relatable to the people.

REAL - Life Principle:  If we teach the Gospel of the Kingdom, the results will be one of two:
1.  People will be saved Matthew 13:23 As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”.
2.  Some can’t let go of the world:  Matthew 13:22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful
3. Many will claim to accept, but when it comes time to defend the Gospel, their heart is shown:  Matthew 13:20 As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, 21yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.”

RELEVANT - Life Application:  Know the Difference:  Jesus was clear when He said in Verse 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and “does not understand it”.  If you Understand it, you will “indeed bear fruit”, “defend the truth in times of persecution”.

READY – Action Steps:  Identify your fruits.  Do you know your Church’s Core Values?  Do you know your Church’s Statement of Doctrine?  When was the last time you invited someone to church?  When was the last time you told someone about Jesus?
