R³ Devotional - Day 267 - Esther 6-10
By: Anderson Baptist Church
Esther 6 describes a turning point where an unpunished past good deed by Mordecai leads to his public honor, a dramatic reversal of Haman’s plans. Due to King Ahasuerus’s insomnia, he reads about Mordecai’s past act of loyalty to the king, leading him to desire to reward Mordecai. Haman, intending to get approval to hang Mordecai, is instead tasked with honoring him, forced to dress Mordecai in royal robes and parade him through the city. This public humiliation heralds Haman’s impending downfall, as his wife and friends recognize the turning of events as God’s providence at work.
Real Life Principles
1. God works behind the scenes - Even when we can't see it, God is at work always. The king's insomnia, the records being read and the timing of Haman’s arrival were all divinely orchestrated.
2. Faithfulness is never forgotten - Mordecai’s faithful acts had gone unnoticed for years and God brought it back at the right moment. God remembers and rewards in his perfect timing.
3. God can reverse things in an instant - Mordecai went from being targeted for death to being celebrated all in the same night. No matter what the situation is God can reverse things in an instant.
Relevant Life Application
1. Trust God when you feel unseen - when your efforts at home, work, or even in ministry seem to go unnoticed, don't give up! God sees, even if people don't!
2. Choose humility over pride - Haman’s pride led to his humiliation, and Mordecai's humility led to his honor. Let your character and faithfulness speak for itself!
Ready Action Steps
1. Notice God in the small things - At the end of each day, think back on the small things like coincidences or conversations and reflect on if they could be God working behind the scenes!
2. Replace fear with hope - When you face a hard situation, remember that God is always at work for His will and he can turn things around in an instant!
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that You are always at work, even in the hidden places I cannot see. Just as You ordered the sleepless night of a king to change Mordecai’s story, I trust that You are arranging circumstances for my good and for Your glory.
Help me to stay faithful even when my efforts feel unseen. Teach me to walk humbly, not seeking my own recognition, but lifting others up and trusting You to honor me in Your time. Guard me from pride like Haman’s, and give me a spirit of humility like Mordecai’s.
When life feels stacked against me, remind me that You can reverse any situation in a single moment. I choose to place my confidence in You, not in my own strength or in human approval.
Lord, let my life reflect patience, humility, and trust in Your sovereign hand. May others see Your glory through the way I live, wait, and hope in You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
