R³ Devotional - Day 256

R³ Devotional - Day 256 - Daniel 1-3

By: Carole Rinehart

Daniel 1
As I read through the Book of Daniel, something that stood out to me was Daniel’s steadfastness. Throughout his life, he sees not just one, but multiple, kingdoms rise and fall. In the midst of so much political uncertainty, Daniel remains unshaken for the most part.

The same holds true for us today. No matter what president is in the White House, no matter where the culture is headed – our mission remains unchanged.

Daniel purposed in his heart…
How firmly have we purposed our hearts to do what’s right?

Daniel 2
"No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries."

Note how Daniel is very careful to make sure that only the true God gets the glory for revealing the mystery surrounding the dream. We also have to be careful to make sure that it is God who gets the glory for our lives and actions.

Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell prostrate before Daniel ….  The king said to Daniel, “Surely your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings”…

Obviously, King Nebuchadnezzar is blown away! We need to be in awe of the one true God.

Daniel 3
Let’s look at the “Mature Faith” that we see here in Daniel 3.

Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah would not bow to an image of King Nebuchadnezzar and were thrown into the fiery furnace. The king was so angry that he had the furnace heated 7 times hotter for them.

Remember from Daniel 1:7, their Hebrew names, which all gave honor to the God of Israel, were changed to names that gave honor to the gods of Babylon. And of course it didn't.

King Nebuchadnezzar shouted, “The servants of the Most High God.” (This was high praise.) to come out of the furnace when he saw them unbound walking around with someone. When he saw the miracle that was taking place right before his eyes, he praised God!

We may well face persecution simply for trusting in the truth of God’s Word. The passage in front of us is a very encouraging passage because it shows us God’s ability to deliver us through or out of those persecutions. Sometimes God allows us to die for His truth.

Let us be mature enough to say “Our God is able to save, but even if He doesn’t……”

Blessings,
Carole
