R³ Devotional - Day 137
R³ Devotional - Day 137 - 2 Samuel Chapters 16-18
By: Daniel Arguijo
Today, we will look at a passage where King David was having some rough times. He fled from Jerusalem because his son Absalom was trying to kill him. Imagine that! That must be a difficult situation to be in.
In chapter 16, we see an interesting situation for David. In the middle of his running away, he came across a man who was a relative of King Saul and was not so fond of King David. This man, Shimei, started cursing David and attacking him with rocks.
One could imagine David and his mighty men could easily get rid of this guy, but David’s reaction was different. In verse 12, he says: “It may be that the LORD will look on the wrong done to me, and that the LORD will repay me with good for his cursing.” David decided not to act upon that curse against him, but allowed it to happen, hoping for the best outcome from the Lord.
David’s reaction can teach us his dependence on the Lord, his humility, and his meekness.
Real: Life Principles
• God has the final say in our situations. We should wait in the Lord for his say and not succumb to what others say about us.
• It is not our responsibility to face our enemies; God calls us to depend on him, and he will take care of them.
Relevant: Life Applications
• We need to learn to wait on the Lord. Trust his word and believe that he is working in our lives, no matter the circumstance.
• Though we may have done wrong things in our lives that people want to attack us with, remember we have a merciful God who has already forgiven us and sees us for who we are in Christ.
Ready: Life Action Steps
• Let’s practice our patience. Instead of reacting to things that might have triggered us in the past, let’s make a habit of going into prayer and asking for patience and discernment.
• Remember each day that no matter what others say, God sees you. He knows exactly who you are, and he still wants to be with us and protect us.
